Google Pixel September 2026 Update is Here: Feature Drop, Security Fixes & More

Google has started rolling out the September 2026 software update for Pixel phones.

The latest update brings the September 2026 Pixel Feature Drop, the latest Android security patch, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

The Pixel VIPs widget gets new options, including quick one-tap actions for calling or texting VIP contacts, notification badges for unread or urgent messages, and easier switching between VIPs.

Harry Potter Audiobook Packs

Pixel users can customize their wallpaper, icons, and sounds with Harry Potter Audiobook Packs inspired by the new full-cast audiobooks on Audible. Eligible users also get a two-month Audible free trial. As per our testing, 2-months free Audible trial is available for new users only in eligible countries.

Scam Detection in Gboard

Scam Detection is coming directly to Gboard on Pixel 6 and newer phones in the U.S. When you start replying to a suspicious message, Gboard can show a “Likely scam” warning above the keyboard. Don’t worry, as stated by Google processing happens in real-time on the device.

Scam Detection Expands to More Countries

Scam Detection in notifications is expanding beyond the U.S. to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, along with support for six additional languages (Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish).

Pause Point Expands to Pixel 6+

Pause Point, which adds a moment before opening a distracting app, is rolling out from Pixel 11 to Pixel 6 and newer devices with this update.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause home screen widgets to disappear after a restart.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause on-device intelligence features to stop working with force dark mode enabled.
  • Fixed issues that could prevent certain devices from connecting to mobile networks or cause service interruptions.
  • Fixed missing media player surface animations.
  • Fixed crashes when connecting or disconnecting an external display.
  • Fixed a system crash that could occur when tapping a taskbar folder in Overview mode.
  • Fixed issues that could prevent notifications from being dismissed.
  • Fixed notifications being partially cut off on the lock screen.
  • Fixed the Shape wallpaper live effect when separating the subject from the background.
  • Fixed an issue where the notification shade could display the wrong language after changing the system language.
  • Fixed text overlapping in notifications under certain conditions.
  • Improved performance and reduced lag when opening the Internet panel from Quick Settings.
